Chicago Cubs Trio Land In Latest Top-100 Prospect Rankings

In this story:
Three Chicago Cubs — including two pitchers — are among the Top 100 prospects in all of baseball in a re-rank of the Top 100 by Baseball America.
But the top prospect of the three is the Cubs’ highly-touted outfielder Peter Crow-Armstrong.
Baseball America based the re-rank on the first two months of action and reflects the performance of players around baseball, along with those prospects who may have graduated from prospect status based on service time.
Crow-Armstrong was ranked No. 18 in the newest rankings. He’s currently with Double-A Tennessee, where he’s emerged as a quality bat with power and the ability to steal bases. He didn’t start his career with the Cubs. He was actually the New York Mets’ first-round in 2020 before he was dealt to the Cubs.
After that, the Cubs have two pitchers that are back-to-back in the rankings. Cade Horton is No. 67 and Ben Brown is No. 68.
Horton was the Cubs’ first-round pick in 2022 out of Oklahoma and recently struck out 10 hitters in a five-inning appearance with the High Class-A South Bend Cubs. He is 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 55 strikeouts after his most recent start against Lansing.
Brown, a right-hander, may be the pitcher most capable of helping the Cubs at some point this season. He was ranked No. 68.
He’s throwing for the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate in Iowa where he’s 4-3 with a 2.75 ERA with 77 strikeouts. Brown is 23, but he’s been in pro baseball since 2017, when he was picked in the 33rd round by the Philadelphia Phillies. In more than 250 minor league innings he has an ERA less than 3.50.
