In this story:

There is some good news coming out of the Chicago Cubs spring training camp on Wednesday with plenty of updates about some of their key players who are working their way back from injury.

First up is an update on outfielder Seiya Suzuki. We recently wrote that Suzuki was back to baseball activities by doing mobility drills, jogging, and taking front-flip swings. The Athletic is reporting that Suzuki has progressed to running the bases and taking batting practice in the cage.

It is another step in the right direction for Suzuki as he works his way back to the field and lineup.

Next up is Kyle Hendricks. The starting pitcher hasn't seen game action this spring yet, and while there was hope he could be ready for Opening Day, that has been ruled out.

However, he is progressing. He told MLB.com on Wednesday that he has three bullpen sessions planned and then will advance to live BP sessions. Much like Suzuki, Hendricks is on the right track to return to the roster in the near future, if his recovery doesn't face any setbacks.

Finally, speaking of rotation news, MLB.com is also reporting that Hayden Wesneski is the probable starting pitcher for Thursday. Javier Assad is also listed to pitch. Both players are aiming for a spot not just in the rotation, but on the 26-man roster.

As Opening Day approaches, their opportunities to perform and prove themselves begin to dwindle. Every inning could be the determining factor for both of these players.
