In this story:

Former Chicago Cubs ace Yu Darvish is timeless. In his eleventh season in MLB, Darvish has made history.

With his strikeout of Baltimore Orioles infielder Ramón Urías on Monday night, Darvish set the record for most MLB strikeouts by a Japanese-born pitcher with 1,919.

Darvish passed Hideo Nomo with the strikeout.

While Darvish doesn't pitch for the Cubs anymore, he did put together three solid seasons for the North Siders. In 294.2 innings pitched, Darvish compiled a 3.60 ERA with a 1.106 WHIP, all of which are right in line with his career numbers.

While Darvish making history is an incredible personal achievement, his team isn't faring so well. With one of the largest payrolls in all of baseball, expectations were high for the San Diego Padres entering the season. They now sit 6.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

That's great news for Chicago who is taking full advantage of one of the World Series "favorites" downturns as they have one less team to contend with for a postseason spot.

The Cubs sit just one game out of a playoff position.

Chicago will host their cross-town rivals on Tuesday in the first of a two-game series against the Chicago White Sox.
