Hoyer Provides Clarity on Stroman's Relationship with Chicago Cubs

Following weeks of questions surrounding Marcus Stroman's future with the Chicago Cubs, Jed Hoyer sheds some light on the situation.

Marcus Stroman's future with the Chicago Cubs has been the subject of great debate over the last few weeks.

Stroman has made it clear he wants to be a Cub. But his recent tweets show that Chicago has failed to engage with him on extension talks despite Stroman's camp already sitting at the table.

Those tweets prompted many to assume he could be on the trade block come the deadline. Something that is still a distinct possibility regardless of Stroman's wishes.

But through all the back and forth, president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer took the radio waves on 670 the Score to try and clear the air on the situation.

“I wouldn’t call it a controversy,” Hoyer said. “I actually think it’s a positive. He really wants to be here. That’s a great thing. I feel like he’s been so positive for us since he got here. I think I said it to the media, when we got him, we said, “Hey let’s let this guy be himself. He works as hard as anybody. But let’s take the boundaries off a little and let him be him and let him prepare how he wants to prepare.’ And he’s been awesome for us.”

So essentially Hoyer is saying 'that's great he wants to be a Cub, he's a great player. Let's see what happens."

If the Cubs can prove that the first month of their season and this recent hot streak are really who they are, then Stroman just might find himself a Cub for the foreseeable future.

If they falter between now and the deadline, Stroman is the most significant trade chip they hold.

You know they drill.
