Talks and rumors about extension negotiations between the Chicago Cubs and ace pitcher Marcus Stroman have been buzzing for weeks.

Stroman is garnering Cy Young attention, putting together a career year and talks about whether to trade or extend have been the forefront of Cubs news.

On Saturday, Stroman himself took to his personal Twitter account to shed some light on what has been happening behind the scenes.

"My agent and I made multiple attempts to engage them on an extension," wrote Stroman." Club wasn’t interested in exploring it now. Will see how it plays out! Love everything about the Cubs organization!"

Stroman has not made it a secret how much he loves the Cubs, the organization and the fans. He clearly loves pitching in front of the Wrigley Field crowd.

But the fact that the organization hasn't even attempted to negotiate with him on contract extension until now is, honestly, a bit mind-boggling. Especially when a player of his caliber and current performance is the one reaching out.

Starting pitching is a premium in this league. Never mind elite level talent like Stroman.

If Chicago truly wishes to contend in the coming seasons, they need to make a commitment to Stroman and their fans by signing him to a fair extension.

Especially when the player is making his wants so vocally known both publicly and privately.
