The Chicago Cubs put on their most impressive offensive display of the season on Friday when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 13-0 at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs (12-7) sent Drew Smyly to the mound who dominated the talented Dodgers rotation. Smyly went 7.2 innings and didn't allow a single run. More impressively, he gave up just one hit.

Jeremiah Estrada, who was called up from Tiple-A Iowa prior to Friday's game finished out the game with a 1.1 innings pitched performance and didn't give up a hit.

The pitching was impressive.

Just as impressive was Chicago's offense.

The Cubs took Los Angeles ace Julio Urias for a ride after recording two runs in the first inning after Seiya Suzuki recorded an RBI-double to score Dansby Swanson and Ian Happ.

Then, in the second inning Nico Hoerner notched an RBI-single to score Nick Madrigal. That extended Hoerner's on-base streak to 17 games.

In the third inning Cody Bellinger and Trey Mancini launched back-to-back home runs to make it 5-0.

Patrick Wisdom, looking like an MVP candidate, hit his eighth home run of the season when he sent a baseball 409 feet and deposited it into the left field stands to make it 8-0.

In the same inning, Hoerner also launched a three-run home run. In the end, the Cubs put together a 13-run performance while their pitching staff allowed just one hit.

The Cubs are good.

This is a team to be excited about.

They will face the Dodgers in the third game of four on Saturday at 1:20 p.m. CT. Hayden Wesneski takes the mound and will face Dustin May of Los Angeles. A win on Saturday guarantees a minimum of a series split with the Dodgers.
