As the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline gets closer, buying teams are getting a better idea of what they need in order to make their playoff push.

Despite being winners of four in a row and seven of their last 10 games entering Wednesday, the Chicago Cubs still find themselves on the outside of the playoffs looking in.

The front office reportedly has not made up their mind on if they want to sell off assets before the deadline or try go all in on making the playoffs for the first time in two years.

Marcus Stroman would play a huge part in whatever the organization decides to do.

The Cubs' ace has the ninth lowest ERA in the majors with 3.09 through 122.1 innings pitched.

It's no secret that he is one of the hottest names on the market and contending teams would love to acquire him.

The Texas Rangers are one of the teams who are interested in trading for the right hander. Eno Sarris of The Athletic wrote a piece about how Stroman's ground ball approach would fit the infield defensive strength of the Rangers.

There should be a robust market for Stroman and Chicago should take full advantage of the situation.

They need to continue filling the organization with as much talent as possible. In their own division, the Cincinnati Reds have a roster full of young talent already competing for the NL Central.

Getting back assets for an upcoming free agent would benefit the Cubs in the long term much more than making the playoffs for one season.
