De Los Santos Powers Comeback Win Over Giants

The Diamondbacks best power hitting prospect delivered a big knock in a comeback win.

Every time it appeared the Giants were able to pull away in this game, the Diamondbacks split squad lineup featuring mostly prospects and minor leaguers were able to scratch and claw their way into the game. Trailing 5-3 after six innings, they scored two runs in each of the final three innings to take a 9-5 win over the Giants.

The big blow came from No. 12 prospect Deyvison De Los Santos. The 19-year-old slugger stepped up to the plate in the eighth inning with a runner on in a 5-5 game. He drove a pitch deep to right field that would give the D-backs the lead for good.

De Los Santos wasn't the only hitter prospect who had a big impact in this game. Corbin Carroll, Blaze Alexander, Dominic Canzone, and A.J. Vukovich all delivered key hits in the comeback bid. Canzone reached base three times, two hits and being hit by a pitch, and scored three runs. Alexander delivered a big double in the seventh that hit the third base bag that put Arizona within a run and later scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

Slade Cecconi got off to a poor start, as Michael Conforto led off the game with a home run, but the D-backs No. 8 prospect allowed only one more baserunner with a pair of strikeouts in two innings.

Non-roster left-hander Sam Clay struggled in another appearance, allowing two runs in the third inning.

Left-hander Blake Walston ran into trouble in the fourth. The D-backs No. 7 prospect allowed a run on two hits and a walk in the inning and needed to be relieved by Andrew Saalfrank, who was able to retire his lone batter. Walston came back in the fifth to pitch a clean inning.

Bryce Jarvis found himself in a 2nd and 3rd with one out jam, but a diving stop by Emmanuel Rivera help limit the damage to just one run. Jarvis bounced back with a zero in the seventh to set up De Los Santos' heroics the next inning.

Michael Otanez pitched a clean eighth and Raffi Vizcaino pitched his way in and out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth to secure the victory.
