The Diamondbacks Announce NLDS Roster

The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced their NLDS roster for the series about to start this evening at 6:20 P.M. MST against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The D-backs will go with 12 pitchers and 14 position players. Owing to the fact that Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly will have the opportunity to start two games each, they only need one other starter. Brandon Pfaadt will likely start game three, although that has not yet been confirmed.

With nine relievers the D-backs have opted to go with left-hand matchup reliever Kyle Nelson along with lefties Andrew Saalfrank and Joe Mantiply, giving them plenty of options for all of the Dodgers left hand hitters.  Nelson had a rough second half following heavy usage and was left off the Wild Card Series Roster. Perhaps the extra rest will have recharged his batteries so he can face critical matchups such as Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Josh Outman, Jason Heyward, or David Peralta.  Bryce Jarvis has been left off the NLDS roster and the only long man then is Ryne Nelson.

The position player roster is the same as it was for the Wild Card series with Milwaukee. Jake McCarthy is out with an oblique strain. Speaking to McCarthy yesterday, he said he came to L.A. straight from Milwaukee with the team and will not have an MRI until he returns to Phoenix.  He said that he was already feeling much better and expressed hope that he could still return later in the postseason should the D-backs advance. While he though that running the bases and playing outfield soon would not be an issue, swinging a bat would be the last thing to come and he just won't know a timetable to start swinging again until after he returns to Phoenix.

The Dodgers have also released their roster as well.

Full coverage at Inside the Diamondbacks will continue throughout the day and into the game. Stay tuned right here for all your latest updates, interviews, pitching and lineup analysis, and game recaps to come.
