The Diamondbacks have placed Tommy Henry on the 15 day disable list with left elbow inflammation.  Henry just pitched on Friday night, going six innings and giving up four first inning runs followed by five shutout innings.

Luvollo said this morning that Henry felt the discomfort after his outing on Friday night, and spoke up the next morning. He had imaging yesterday and it showed no structural damage, just the inflammation. Henry will rest for seven days and then begin a throwing program, and if all goes well Lovullo expressed confidence that Henry could be back sometime in August.  There is no thought of surgery at this point, but the timeline is firm.

Lovullo went out of his way to praise Henry for speaking up and not trying to hide the injury. He's been pitching well, and it takes just as much mental toughness to open up when something doesn't feel right.

At this point the team is only discussing internal options with regards to replacing Henry in the rotation. Of course that is outside of any potential trades the team may make prior to Tuesday's trade deadline.  Zach Davies, who has been on the IL with a back injury, is not yet an option. He's just about to begin a throwing program and there is no timeline for his return. Lovullo did say they are not thinking about another bullpen game, so barring a trade they may reach down to the minor leagues for another starter for now.

Henry is in his second year in the majors and has appeared in 17 games, 16 of them starts. He's 5-4 with a 4.17 ERA in 89 innings pitched. He made his MLB debut last year on August 3rd, 2022, and made nine starts , going 3-4 with a 5.36 ERA

Henry is the second young D-backs pitcher to suffer a recent elbow injury. Drey Jameson is on the 60 day IL with a sprained UCL  and is attempting a conservative treatment route before deciding whether to have surgery at some later date.

Cole Sulser was activated from the 60 day IL for the corresponding move. Sulser had a strained right shoulder injury suffered back in April. Sulser had appeared in just three games, allowing three runs in 4.1 innings before heading to the disabled list.  He was previously with Miami, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay and in 128 games has a 7-13 record with a 3.83 ERA and 15 saves.
