Torey Lovullo Gives Updates on Corbin Carroll, Merrill Kelly

In this story:
Before today's game against the New York Mets, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo gave updates on how Corbin Carroll and Merrill Kelly are progressing from their injuries.
Carroll was removed from last Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with right shoulder soreness. After missing much of the Angels series, he is back in the lineup for today's game against the Mets.
"Corbin is back in the lineup. I had some decisions to make at the backend of the Anaheim series. I know Corbin wanted to play, we felt like he was trending in a very positive direction. We have a system in place: you have a day off, you have a work day, then you are available for the game day. I think Carroll was ready to start for the last day, but I told him 'Let's pull back and give it one more day'. He feels good, he's ready to go. I think we dodged a bullet by him speaking up, if there was something that was going to become more serious, he did a good job and he's in a good spot right now."
Merrill Kelly is currently on the 15-day injured list with a blood clot in his right calf. Kelly will throw a 35-40-pitch bullpen today with two up-downs after encouraging test results on his calf Thursday.
"I saw him yesterday, said he feels good. The pain and swelling is going away. The fact he's going in there to get after it today, with the two up-downs, is a very encouraging workload. What happens in back of that, if healthy where he gets inserted, I don't know. We have two or three different versions of our rotation coming out of the break, we got to find out how he's doing. He's ready to go, he wants to pitch, but he's got to be healthy."
Kelly is eligible to be activated off the injured list when the D-backs begin the second half in Toronto.
