The Diamondbacks go for the three game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels today in Anaheim, game time 1:07 P.M.  Arizona took the first two games, 6-2 behind Lourdes Gurriel Jr's grand slam and then 3-1 on the strength of Ryne Nelson's dominant outing.

Pitching Matchup

Zac Gallen is having a an All Star and Cy Young worthy season to day. Even when he has a misstep, like he did in the second inning of last week's start against Tampa Bay, he usually finds a way to give his team a chance to win.  Gallen features a four pitch mix, with a four seam, cutter, curveball, and change up. He will often alternate which secondary pitch to feature the most. Most of the time it's the curveball, but he's just as likely to be cutter or change up heavy depending on the feel that day and what's the best game plan to get the opposing hitters out.

Reid Detmers features a mid 90's four seam fastball, a slider, and a highly effective curveball this year, against which batters are hitting just .175. He's pitched into some bad luck and his 1-5 record does not line up with his sub four era, high k/BB ratio and low home run rate.

Lineups

Corbin Carroll is out of the lineup for the third straight game with shoulder soreness. Torey Lovullo said that he only would have been available in an emergency last night. He was non committal about his availability for today's game, but it sounds like the situation is the same.

I just want to be mindful of what he's getting ready to do over the [All Star] break where he's not going to have a break, and how important he is for the rest of the season. I've got to give him days off. If I give him a couple more on this front side he's going to go to the all star game where he is going to be racing through three days of workouts and playing and everybody else is going to be resting. This is an opportunity for me to give him a little bit of an All Star break
