Diamondbacks Clear Space for Brandon Pfaadt

In this story:
With Brandon Pfaadt set to make his major league debut today for the Diamondbacks, the team needed to clear room on both their 26 and 40-man rosters. To accomplish this, the D-backs announced they optioned right-handed reliever Peter Solomon to Triple-A Reno and designated first baseman Seth Beer for assignment.

Solomon, 26, was called up to Arizona on April 9th. In his five appearances, he's pitched to a 12.15 ERA in 13.1 innings with a 6/11 strikeout to walk ratio. Solomon was scored upon in four of the five outings, all of which going at least two innings. He'll spend at least the next 15 days with Reno, unless it's to replace an injured player. The bullpen will be without a long reliever in the interim, putting a little bit more pressure on the starting rotation.
Beer, 26, was one of four players Arizona picked up in the Zack Greinke trade at the 2019 trade deadline. Beer struggled in his big leagues opportunities, hitting .208/.294/.292 with two home runs in 38 games with Arizona. His signature moment came on Opening Day last season, in which he hit a walk-off three-run home run to defeat the San Diego Padres on National Beer Day.

In 19 games with Reno this season, he's hitting .200/.266/.314 with an alarming 29.1% strikeout rate and only four extra base hits in 19 games. His struggles in Reno the past two seasons along with Pavin Smith's emergence as the best left-handed option at the designated hitter/backup first baseman role likely sealed his fate in Arizona. The D-backs will have seven days to trade, release, or pass Beer through outright waivers. If he clears waivers, he will be outrighted to Reno.
