During today's press conference to announce manager Torey Lovullo contract extension through 2024, Mike Hazen confirmed this deal syncs up Lovullo's contract term with his own.

"In aggregate with where we're all at, it just seemed to make a lot of sense for us" said Hazen. Where we are at in the front office is at too, the whole entire piece to that just seemed to make the most sense for everybody". When asked  if the extension now syncs up Lovullo with the front office contracts, the D-backs general manager said yes.

Hazen was hired as the general manager in November 2016, and his first move was hiring Lovullo as the manager. In his first seven seasons, the D-backs have an overall record of 411-459. With the team off to a 35-24 start, the organization rewarded their manager with a one-year extension.

"The degree of preparation that we see that goes in with Torey and this coaching staff is something we think is an asset of ours" said Hazen. "The way the team plays for him, that's been fairly consistent even in season where it hasn't gone extremely well from a win-loss standpoint. It's something we're culturally looking to continue, to make sure he's here everyday for us."

Under Lovullo, we've seen young players develop into key contributors. Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Christian Walker, Geraldo Perdomo, and Corbin Carroll all arrived in Arizona as rookies and have blossomed into mainstays in the lineup and rotation.

"He has a good way to ensure the players are focused on the things they need to be focused on" said Hazen. "He has grown tremendously as a manager in the sense of pushing these guys in ways that he uses those relationships that he builds, that he invests in, in a very positive manner. He's tough on those guys too, he holds them accountable and that's something we felt we needed to continue to grow with as we transition from a veteran team to the one we have now."

With a young core of players who have grown under Lovullo's guidance, the D-backs have tasked him with the opportunity to lead them into a consistent winner.
