The entire Dodgers fanbase collectively took a huge gasp when Freddie Freeman was forced to exit Team Canada's Tuesday World Baseball Classic game. Freeman came up somewhat gimpy after swinging the bat, and ended up being removed from the game.

The injury was bad enough for Freeman to miss Canada's win-and-in game on Wednesday against Mexico, where he instead went back to Dodgers camp to get some treatment.

Fortunately, both Freeman and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided updates on the injury on Wednesday, and it was all good news for Los Angeles. Let's start with the update from Doc, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

Roberts said that the injury was "mild," and that his availability for Opening Day was not a concern.

"I don’t think that’s a concern at all," Roberts said about Freeman not be ready for Opening Day. "I think he’ll be in a game sooner than we all expect actually."

The "sooner than we all expect," leads one to believe that Freeman could return well before Opening Day for some more Cactus League action. And when Freeman spoke to the media, he confirmed just that.

Freeman said he's feeling much better, and removed himself out of caution due to feeling some persistent tightness. He said he expects to start hitting in the cage as soon as Thursday, and could get back into a game over the weekend.

This is great news for the Dodgers, as he feels like the one player this team cannot afford to lose for an extended period of time. But fortunately, they won't have to worry about that. Freeman should be back in the lineup soon, and will no doubt be ready to go for Opening Day.
