No shortage of star power over the years, the Dodgers have boasted many talented names in their storied history such as Jackie Robinson, Mike Piazza and Clayton Kershaw to name a few.

However ,none of these names have put up seasons quite like the modern LA duo of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have this year, which has been nothing short of historic in 2023.

LA's been getting it done at the top of both the NL's West's standings and at the top of their lineup all season long, but the numbers are even more remarkable with context.

Able to rely on Betts and Freeman playing Gold Glove caliber defense in right field (and also second base and shortstop) and first base, respectively, has been a treat for both manager Dave Roberts and fans alike who are watching baseball history made every single game.

Over on MLB.com, Mike Petriello wrote an incredible in-depth article talking about the star power at the top of LA's lineup, which you could read by clicking right here.

Here's a piece of the many arguments he made as to why Betts and Freeman may be the best 1-2 punch in baseball history.

It’s because the top of the Dodger lineup isn’t just the best in baseball, though it is that. It’s because the top of the Dodger lineup is carrying a larger share of the load than just about any top-two duo in recent history. Betts has a .968 OPS with 31 homers. He’s fourth in the Majors in Wins Above Replacement. Freeman has a 1.005 OPS, the best full-season mark of a career that's on a Hall of Fame trajectory. He’s

second

in the Majors in WAR, with a growing case to claim the NL MVP that for so long seemed safely in Ronald Acuña Jr.’s trophy case.

No matter where they rank among baseball's all time greats, the Dodgers have been riding their superstar talents to one of the best records in the league once again in 2023.

Betts and Freeman may be stealing the headlines, and rightfully so, but it'll take the entire roster to win it all in the postseason.
