Dodgers Top Exec Shoulders the Blame for ‘Organizational Failure’ in 2023

In this story:
With the NLCS getting underway, the Los Angeles Dodgers are getting ready… oh wait.
The Dodgers are getting ready for the offseason because they suffered another postseason disaster. This time they were swept out of the playoffs by their division rival Arizona Diamondbacks, leading to a new low for the organization.
Like all the fans, the LA players are sitting at home watching Arizona and the Philadelphia Phillies battle it out. It was a complete meltdown from LA this postseason, and as they enter the offseason, there is a strange feeling around the team.
Fans are growing tired of the team underperforming each season, and there is a desire to see the organization go all-in this offseason. It remains to be seen if that will happen, but president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman did take the blame for what happened in the postseason.
“When there is an organizational failure, I think it starts and ends with me and I didn’t do a good enough job," Friedman said Tuesday. "And I’m going to do everything I can this offseason with our group to put ourselves in a position where we are the team that plays in and wins the last game of the year next year.”
It's nice to see some accountability being taken here, and fans can surely appreciate that. But something needs to change in how the team approaches things. They are far too talented to fall apart every October, so this offseason will be crucial to their future success.
"I think it's fair to say it was an organizational failure. ... Our goal was to win 11 games in October and we didn't win one."

If the Dodgers are serious about winning, they will change the way they go about the offseason. They will push their cards in and shell out money to get the best guys onto the roster.
They have a clear need in the starting rotation, and they also could benefit from signing two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani as well. Fans are expecting Ohtani to be wearing a Dodgers jersey next season, so Friedman needs to do everything he can to try to make that happen.
We will learn a lot about how this front office values winning this offseason. If they go all-in, fans can take comfort in knowing they did their best. But if they continue to bargain shop without also solving their issues, it will be a hard sell to get people interested again next season.
