Breakdown Of Guardians 2023 Player Development Staff Assignments
The Guardians have been able to have the success they've had in a large part due to their fantastic coaching all throughout the minor league system. This was clear last season when the Guardians continuously called up players who made an instant impact, but this has been a theme for a while now.
On Tuesday, the organzine announced its player development staff assignments throughout the minor league system.
Triple-A Columbus
The Triple-A Columbus staff will feature:
- Andy Tracy - Captain
- Rigo Beltran - Bullpen Coach
- Jason Esposito - Run Production Coordinator
- Owen Drew - Pitching Coach
- Junior Betances - Hitting Coach
- Greg DiCenzo - Bench Coach
- Cody Bucke; - Pitching Strategist
Double-A Akron
The staff at Akron will include:
- Rouglas Odor - Manager
- Brad Goldberg - Pitching Coach
- Mike Mergenthaler - Hitting
- Ian Forster - Assistant Hitting
- Daniel Robertson - Bench
Other Moves
- Omir Santos - from Lynchburg to manage Lake County
- Jordan Smith - Lynchburg Manager
- TJ Rivera - ACL Club
- Jesus Tavarez - DSL Blue Club
- Juan De La Cruz - DSL Red Club
Promotions And Hires
The Guardians Orgaiznaiton also made a few new hires and promotions to the team as well. These are:
- Caleb Longshore - Pitching Coordinator at Lake County
- Larry Day - Assistant Field Coordinator and ninth season in Guardians' organization
- Raul Gonzalez - AZ Academy Hitting Coach
- Ben Johnson - Assistant Director, Pitching Development
- Matt Eiden - Strength and Condition Coordinator
- Lionel Chia - Physical Development Resource Coordinator
- Dan Himmerick - Rehab Coordinator
- Michael Poole - Pitching Development Coach
- Dan Mahoney - Pitching Development Coach
The last new hire has a pretty cool story that goes along with it. The Guardians brought in Amanda Kamekona who has a history in professional sports. She played professional softball from 2010-19 and had a stellar college career at UCLA as well. She started and coached a junior Olympic softball team in California. This type of experience will be a great addition to the staff!
