The last member of the baby Mets to reach the majors could have his path to the big leagues put on hold.

On Sunday, top prospect Ronny Mauricio sprained his ankle, according to The New York Post. The Mets will decide in the coming days whether he will require an injured list stint or not.

Mauricio was removed from a game for Triple-A Syracuse after a collision at second base.

Mauricio was playing second base when a base-runner attempted to steal second. The runner collided into Mauricio's left foot, who then laid on the dirt for several minutes. On the bright side, Mauricio was able to walk off on his own power.

On Friday, general manager Billy Eppler said Mauricio would begin playing left field, which would clear the way for him to get called up to the big leagues. The other baby Mets, Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty and Mark Vientos, have all been brought up to the major league roster this season.

Mauricio has torn it up in Triple-A this year, posting a .333 batting average, .923 OPS and eight home runs. The 22-year-old is a natural shortstop, who can play second base and is about to learn left field. The only knock against Mauricio's game is he strikes out too often, 41 times this year as opposed to 11 walks.
