When you've gotta go, you've gotta go.

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso hit a first-pitch home run against Hunter Greene and the Cincinnati Reds a few weeks ago in the second inning.

As it turns out, Alonso's goal was to get back to the dugout as fast as possible because he really had to go to the bathroom.

“I mistimed my pregame coffee. Mistimed it. I had it too close to game time,” Alonso told Foul Territory. “And then I’m running, doing my sprints and then I throw in the middle of the first inning, I’m like goodness gracious, this is not good.

“So I was hitting the top of the second, I was leading off the inning. I said I don’t care where this pitch is, this at-bat is ending first pitch. Because I need to go.”

Alonso's homer tied the game, and the Mets went on to win 2-1 on May 10.

“As soon as I touch home plate, it was straight to the bathroom,” Alonso said. “No high fives, straight to the bathroom.

“… That was best-case but dude, honestly, if I had to run the bases, honestly I would’ve gotten picked off on purpose or something. I would’ve had to go so bad.”

Alonso currently leads baseball with 19 home runs and 45 RBIs. He is on pace to hit 59 homers this season.

The Mets are 27-25 and 4.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East.
