First Look: 3 Murals of Padres Legends to Debut at FanFest

Three Padres earned legendary murals.

The San Diego Padres have added another attraction for fans to see for the first time at FanFest — three new murals.

The murals, which were created by the Padres design team and Danny Kim, will feature three Baseball Hall of Famers from the Padres: Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman and Dave Winfield, via Padres CEO Erik Greupner.

All three of these former Padres legends are not just part of the Padres Hall of Fame, but the Baseball Hall of Fame, as well. They each also have their numbers retired by the team. Now, they will be commemorated through murals on the field level concourse.

Gwynn spent his entire MLB career with the Padres from 1982-2001. Despite not receiving any scholarships to play college baseball and going undrafted in 1977, (he was later drafted in the third round in 1981), Gwynn ended up as a first ballot Hall of Famer by the time it was all said and done. Throughout his incredible career, Gwynn was a 15-time All-Star and an eight-time NL batting champion.

Hoffman did not spend his entire career with the Padres, but the majority of his career from 1993-2008. A seven-time All-Star and two-time NL saves leader, Hoffman was known most not for his ability as a closer, but his incredible character and leadership. Hoffman's character was awarded with the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award in 2006, given to the player with the best character and integrity on and off the baseball diamond.

Lastly, the Padres will debut a mural of Winfield, who spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the Padres from 1973-80. During his career, Winfield was a 12-time All-Star, a six-time Silver Slugger and the NL RBI leader in 1979.

All three of these outstanding Padres are more than worthy of this honor, which fans will first get to see on Sunday, March 24 at FanFest.
