The San Diego Padres have been able to forge out a number of solid series as of late, not including their poor one against a red-hot San Fransisco Giants squad earlier this week, and we saw them start off well against the Washington Nationals with a dominant 13-3 win.

However, their bats seemed to go cold on Saturday as they connected on only four hits and went scoreless in their 2-0 loss. They were facing off against one of the worst pitching rotations in the entire MLB and still could not find any success.

Seeing that they had just recorded 13 runs the night before, fans were left wondering what happened this time around. Fernando Tatis Jr. spoke on what happened in the match and revealed that the opposing pitchers just got the better of them.

“I don’t know,” said Tatis. “He was sneaky. There are some pitches we didn’t (anticipate).”(Via The San Diego-Union Tribune)

San Diego is now sitting at 37-40 on the year and the wild card is 6.5 games ahead of them. The trade deadline is approaching closer and closer and the organization will have to decide if this current group of talent will suffice moving forward.

Team manager Bob Melvin has been trying to find ways to motivate his team since the beginning of the 2023 season and he has never been scared to call out the clubhouse when they've been underperforming.

He made it clear that he expected different results on Saturday.

“If you told me we’re gonna give up two runs tonight, I (would have) thought we’d have a pretty good chance to win,” said Melvin. “Obviously, it didn’t happen. We had a few opportunities but didn’t really hit all that many balls hard to really put a scare in them. We had a couple guys on a couple innings, but that was it. Not enough offensively.”

Let's hope they can bounce back today!
