The San Diego Padres are not just buyer in the free agent market when it means they will need to offer humongous contracts.

Just last week, esteemed shortstop Jose Iglesias parted ways with the Miami Marlins after a minor league deal with them. He has been in the MLB since 2011 and had his best years with the Detroit Tigers.

However, it appears that even though he was in the hunt for a big league opportunity, he'll have to take what he can get with another minor league deal with the Padres.

Mark Feinsand was the first to share the news on Twitter.

What will San Diego Be Getting Out Of Iglesias?

This is by no means a risky move for the Padres. It is clear that at 33-years-old, Iglesias is just trying to find his place in the MLB again. For his career, he has posted a slash line of .279/.319/.382 and has proven to be a pretty consistent option at the plate.

He suited up for the Colorado Rockies in 2022 and drove in 128 hits with three home runs.

We also received one of the most heartfelt moments in baseball when he decided to hit the field after his father's death.

What Went Wrong In Miami?

As mentioned previously, Iglesias merely wants a shot to prove what he could do. Despite not getting a spot on the Marlins' roster after Spring Training, he decided to give the minor leagues a shot.

However, he never even got in a game during his time there and it was clear a new environment was needed. He is certainly going to get that in San Diego and we look forward to seeing him showcase what he has left in the tank.
