Padres Superstar Celebrating Mother's Day for First Time In Over a Decade

In this story:
One of the unfortunate realities of being a professional athlete is that for a good percentage of the year, you are not going to be home. Between traveling to other cities to take on every team, handling off-field business, and the scary reality of being traded at any point, it is just something that comes with the job.
Xander Bogaerts played for the Boston Red Sox ever since coming into the league in 2013 and before then, he grew up in Aruba and Bonaire. He's detailed in the past just how important of a role his mother played him guiding him to be the man and baseball player that he is today.

But X-Man is a little more grateful than usual today. Due to him residing in Boston for over the past decade and also being in different areas every year, he has not been able to celebrate his mom on Mother's Day since he was a teenager.
"The last time

got to celebrate Mother’s Day in person with his mother,
Sandra Brown
, was likely sometime before signing with the Red Sox as a 16-year-old in late May 2010."

However, Bogaert's mother knows how hard moving can be and now that her son was playing for just his second MLB team ever, she has been living with him as he gets accustomed to the new city.
And with Los Angeles only being about two hours away from San Diego, she made sure to be at Dodger Stadium so Bogaerts could finally have a Mother's Day with her again.

This year, Bogaerts’ mother has been with him as he settles down in San Diego. She extended her stay long enough to see Bogaerts play in person on Mother’s Day for the first time.
“It’s pretty incredible for me,” Bogaerts said, adding that he’ll have “flowers and all that” for the occasion."

Beyond just X-Man being one of the best players on the squad this season, we care about his happiness off the field just as much and love to see moments like this.
