Padres Trim Camp Roster to 60 in First Round of Cuts

The Padres' first round of cuts is complete.

The San Diego Padres trimmed their camp roster down to 60 players this week to complete the first round of cuts.

The Padres re-assigned right-handed pitchers Yovanny Cruz, Kevin Kopps, Lake Bachar, Moises Lugo, Nolan Watson, Drew Carlton to minor league camp. They also re-assigned outfielders Tirso Ornelas and Robert Perez Jr., center fielder Chandler Seagle and infielder Nate Mondou to minor league camp, via Padres Communications.

Several of these players got to see action during major league Cactus League games.

Mondou did not reach base in four at-bats in three games. Ornelas saw five at-bats and recorded one hit and one RBI. Seagle went 0 for 1. Perez Jr. saw the most action of any of the reassigned players, recording one hit and one run in 11 at-bats. He also struck out four times.

Among the pitchers, Kopps worked two innings and recorded one strikeout while allowing two hits and one walk. Cruz also pitched two innings and had one strikeout and two walks. Bachar saw just one inning of action and walked one batter.

Watson struggled in his only inning, allowing two hits, two earned runs, one home run and only recording one strikeout. Lugo could not complete an inning, giving up four hits, six earned runs and allowing one walk.

These players will now go down to the minor-league side of camp, where they are still eligible to join the Padres in a Cactus League game on an as-needed basis.

San Diego and the Los Angeles Dodgers are starting the regular season earlier than every other team, on March 20, hence the relatively early round of cuts.
