Padres News: Bob Melvin Shares Thoughts on Manny Machado’s Controversial Ejection

In this story:
It's definitely all fun and games right now for the baseball world to poke fun at Manny Machado and call him a crybaby, but the situation that we saw take place today is likely going to happen a lot more around the league.
Following a pitch clock violation in Machado's first plate appearance during the Padres home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the umpire deemed it a third strike. However, rules clearly have staten that a player can call time and Machado did this while adjusting his gloves. The umpire failed to see this and the two argued about it, which led to the star third baseman getting ejected.
Expert lip-readers on Twitter have speculated that Machado called him a "douchebag" which was the umpire's last straw, but nothing has been confirmed. Take a look for yourself if you haven't seen the interaction yet.
It appears the reason Manny Machado was ejected in today's game is because "he called me a douchebag."

I'm willing to bet that if other umpires follow this lead, many batters are going to react in this same manner. The pitch clock already has gotten enough backlash as it is and this just adds a whole new layer to it.
Team manager Bob Melvin shared his thoughts about the ejection postgame and too revealed that he won't be surprised if we see more of this occur.

"Yeah I don't think he saw it in time," said Melvin. "I thought he did and Manny obviously thought he did but you're going to see some of that, it's a strike three."

Melvin was right there next Machado fighting for his case so he himself knows the call wasn't correct. We're going to keep a close eye on how all of this plays out for the rest of the teams.
