MLB Insider Details Wild Phillies Trade Scenario and Potential Reunion

In this story:

The Philadelphia Phillies made the first big splash of what is widely expected to be a crazy winter when they re-signed Aaron Nola to a seven-year, $72 million deal.

But that is likely just the start for the Phillies who will want to make an impact signing to help reshape the roster ahead of the 2024 MLB season. A season where they hope to right the wrongs of the last two seasons that have ended in bitter disappointment just steps away from a World Series championship.

As such, MLB insider Mark Feinsand predicted an interesting scenario that he thinks could play out for Philadelphia this winter.

"Johan Rojas and Cristian Pache are more likely trade candidates, and given how good Rojas looked during limited playing time, he could be used to bolster another area of the roster," writes Feinsand. "But what if the Phillies decided to trade Castellanos, who has three years and $60 million remaining on his contract? That would open up right field for Bryce Harper, allowing the Phillies to bring Rhys Hoskins back on a new deal. The market for impact bats is weak this offseason, so Castellanos would likely draw significant interest if the Phillies made him available."

There are two issues with this scenario. Really three.

The first is that Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has publicly stated that Castellanos is not for sale.

Secondly, Dombrowski has publicly stated that Harper is expected to be Philadelphia's full-time first baseman.

Third, Dombrowski has also publicly made it known that a reunion with Hoskins is unlikely.

On the surface and even after a deep dive, this scenario from Feinsand appears to just be full of hot air. Something we are used to this time of year.
