Arizona Diamondbacks Game 1 World Series Starter Familiar to Texas Rangers

World Series Game 1 starter Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks pitched twice against the Texas Rangers in 2023.

The Texas Rangers will be facing Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night at Globe Life Field in Arlington.

This will be third time Gallen has faced the Rangers this season. The Rangers are starting Nathan Eovaldi.

In the playoffs, Gallen is 2-2 with a 5.24 ERA in four starts. He made his last start in the 6-1 defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series.

Gallen took the loss in the game, throwing six innings, giving up four runs (all earned) and six hits. He struck out one and walked two. He also allowed two home runs.

He started the postseason by winning his first two starts, against the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card round and Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Division Series. He lost both of his starts against the Phillies in the NLCS.

Gallen had a career season with the Diamondbacks, as he went 17-9 with a 3.47 ERA in 34 starts. He threw a career-high 210 innings, striking out 220 and walking 47. He allowed batters t hit .238 against him while he finished with a 1.12 WHIP.

Gallen faced the Rangers on May 2 at Globe Life Field and took a no-decision, as the D-backs lost  6-4. Gallen pitched five innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. He struck out six and walked none. It happens to be the only game the Rangers won against the Diamondbacks in four meetings.

Gallen faced Texas again on Aug. 22 in Phoenix, claiming the victory as Arizona won, 6-3. He threw six innings, giving up seven hits and one earned run. He struck out 11, one off his season high, and walked one.
