The Texas Rangers improved their MLB-best home record with a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night at Globe Life Field.

The Rangers (72-48) are now 42-20 at home and are also 15-2 at home since the All-Star Break. The Rangers have won two straight against the Angels and have won the series.

Rangers starter Jordan Montgomery (8-10) was excellent in his third start with Texas since the trade deadline. Shortstop Corey Seager hit two home runs.

Angels (59-62) starter Lucas Giolito (7-9) gave up three runs in the the third inning as the Rangers took a lead they never gave up.

Rangers 7, Angels 3

Here are the key takeaways from the Rangers' victory over the Angels on Tuesday.

Monty Means Business

Jordan Montgomery continued the Rangers' fine work as a starting rotation on Tuesday. The left-hander gave up six hits and a run in six innings, walking none and striking out nine. In three Rangers starts, Montgomery is now 2-1, has gone at least six innings and has given up two or fewer runs. He was a strikeout short of giving the Rangers a third straight game in which the starter has 10 or more strikeouts (Dane Dunning with 12 on Sunday, Max Scherzer with 11 on Monday).

Josh Sborz threw a scoreless seventh and Aroldis Chapman threw a scoreless eighth. Chris Stratton gave up his first runs as a Rangers reliever when the Angels' Randall Grichuk hit a two-run home run in the ninth. Will Smith got the final out of the game.

Seager's Scintillating Night

Corey Seager drove in five runs on Tuesday. He hit two home runs and the first one was nearly taken from him. His long drive to left-center field in the third inning was nearly caught by Angels center fielder Jordyn Adams. He had the ball in his glove before his body hit the ball and jarred the ball out. Seager (3-for-5, five RBI) later hit a solo shot in the seventh inning and drove in a run on a single in the eighth.

First baseman Nathaniel Lowe went 2-for-4. Marcus Semien had an RBI triple that started the scoring and Travis Jankowski — who scored on Semien's triple in the third — drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

Next Up

The Rangers wrap up the series with the Angels at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday. Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (8-5, 3.65) will face left-hander Reid Detmers (2-9, 5.27), who is pitching in the place of Shohei Othani. The two-way superstar told the Angels he was dealing with arm fatigue and they decided to skip his start. He will likely serve as the designated hitter. The Rangers have an off-day on Thursday before starting a three-game series with Milwaukee on Friday.
