The season-high losing skid is going to leave a mark.

The Texas Rangers, despite currently leading the American League West at 72-52 and in possession of the No. 2 playoff seed, have dropped four straight games on the verge a nine-game road trip. (Texas also had a four-game winless streak in late April.)

The Milwaukee Brewers swept a three-game set at Globe Life Field over the weekend, as the division race had tightened. The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners are both within 3.0 games of Texas going into Monday.

The latest Power Rankings from MLB.com reflect the Rangers’ latest fortunes, as the club has dropped a spot to No. 5 this week. Texas was No. 3 two weeks ago.

Per MLB.com:

Texas was actually a game under .500 over the months of June and July (25-26), but won 12 of 14 to open August. That includes victories in the first two games of the Rangers’ three-game set against the Angels this past week. But since then, Texas has dropped four straight, culminating in a sweep by the Brewers at Globe Life Field over the weekend.

The bats are seen as the chief culprit. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy bemoaned the lack of offense after Saturday’s 6-1 loss to Milwaukee. Texas responded (rather poorly) by falling 6-2 on Sunday.

The Rangers have been uncharacteristically cold at the plate of late, scoring two or fewer runs in three of their last four contests. Star middle infielders Corey Seager and Marcus Semien will certainly try to get the offense back on track for what promises to be a thrilling AL West race with the Astros and the Mariners chasing Texas down the stretch.

As far as the rest of the AL West, the Mariners have jumped three spots to No. 6, one rung higher than Houston. The Los Angeles Angels (19) and Oakland Athletics (30) bring up the rear.
