Perez, Garcia Lead Texas Rangers Past Rockies

The Texas Rangers opened a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies with an easy win.

The Texas Rangers bounced back from a series loss to down the Colorado Rockies 7-2 Friday night at Globe Life Field.

The American League West-leading Rangers (27-17) got a strong start from Martín Pérez and another big night from Adolis García to open the interleague matchup. Texas responded from losing two of three to the Atlanta Braves by improving to 14-8 at home.

The Rangers are 2-2 record on this seven-day, six-game homestand. The franchise also claimed its 100th win ever at Globe Life Field, as the club is 100-114 (.467) in the facility that opened in 2020.

Texas has gone 8-7 in the first game of series in 2023, including 4-4 at home. The Rangers are tied for the third-best start in team history and off to their best start since being 29-15 in 2013.

Pérez also followed up a couple of subpar outings by going solid seven innings and allowing just two runs. The left-hander improved to 5-1 after striking out seven and walking just two, scatting seven hits.

García drilled his 14th home run in the fourth off Colorado starter Karl Kauffmann in his MLB debut. García has a team-high 48 RBI in just 44 games for Texas.

García also leads the AL in homers, breaking a tie with New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge (13 HR). García has homered in a career-high three straight games and four of his last five.

Corey Seager, starting at shortstop for the first time since coming off the injured list, drove in two with a double in the fifth. Josh Jung and Robbie Grossman also drove in runs in the five-run fifth.

The Rangers go for the series win Saturday at 3:05 p.m. Jon Gray (3-1, 3.15) starts for Texas, with Kyle Freeland (4-4, 3.16) going for Colorado.
