Texas Rangers Reveal Mitch Garver Rehab Schedule

Mitch Garver has missed more than a month with a sprained knee but he appears ready for injury rehab game action.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers catcher Mitch Garver should head to Albuquerque to join the Triple-A Round Rock Express when they face the Isotopes on Tuesday.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy revealed the early plan for Garver’s rehab assignment. Garver will be the designated hitter Tuesday and Wednesday, and will catch five innings Thursday.

“We’ll see how he comes out of that,” Bochy said before the organization assesses the next step.

Garver was on the field on Sunday getting in some sprints and other baseball activities. He’s been working out pregame with the Rangers, including batting practice and taking reps behind the plate in the bullpen. He also had an MRI on Friday with no issues.

Garver’s workload once he’s activated remains to be determined, Bochy said. One thing benefiting the Rangers is that they have an off-day on Thursday each of the next three weeks.

Garver was moved to the 10-day injured list on April 10 with a mild left knee sprain. He has been working out regularly the past couple of weeks. Rangers general manager Chris Young recently said Garver was making progress.

Garver was batting .263 with two home runs and six RBI at the time of the injury. Since then the Rangers have used Sandy León as the primary backup to Jonah Heim.

The Rangers traded for Garver, a former 30-home run hitter, last offseason and he missed the majority of the season with a right flexor tendon injury, which required surgery. He returned and ramped up well during Spring Training, getting back behind the plate and serving as a designated hitter. He made the Opening Day roster.
