Texas Rangers C Mitch Garver Rehab Update

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy clarified the timeline for Mitch Garver's injury rehab assignment.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers catcher Mitch Garver should begin a rehab assignment next week, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Bochy shared the update before Friday’s series opener with the Colorado Rockies when he was asked about Garver’s MRI, which took place on Friday.

“I don’t know the results of it, but I’m assuming it’s fine because he’s out there throwing and doing his early work,” Bochy said.

The American League West-leading Rangers (26-17) open thr interleague series at 7:05 p.m. at Globe Life Field. Martín Pérez (4-1, 4.25) is scheduled to start for Texas.

Bochy added the plan was for Garver to start his rehab assignment at Triple-A next week.

Round Rock, the Triple-A affiliate, is set to begin a six-game series at Albuquerque on Tuesday.

This lines up with rehab date that Bochy provided during the Rangers’ previous road trip.

Garver was moved to the 10-day injured list on April 10 with a mild left knee sprain. He has been working out regularly the past couple of weeks and Rangers general manager Chris Young said Monday that he was making progress.

Garver was batting .263 with two home runs and six RBI at the time of the injury. Since then the Rangers have used Sandy León as the primary backup to Jonah Heim. The Rangers also called up Sam Huff last week after Travis Jankowski was put on the 10-day injured list.

Huff is now back in Triple-A, as he was sent down when shortstop Corey Seager was activated Wednesday.

The Rangers traded for Garver last offseason and he missed the majority of the season with a right flexor tendon injury, which required surgery. He returned and ramped up well during Spring Training, getting back behind the plate and serving as a designated hitter. He made the Opening Day roster.
