Watch: Mitch Garver Homers in Texas Rangers Rehab Game

Mitch Garver wrapped up his week-long injury rehab stint with the Triple-A Round Rock Express on Sunday in Albuquerque.

Texas Rangers catcher Mitch Garver homered for the second time during his injury rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday afternoon.

The Express were finishing off a week-long series with the Albuquerque Isotopes. Round Rock won the finale 11-8.

Garver led off and played catcher for the second time during the rehab assignment. He went 1-for-4, but that one hit was a big one — a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning that pushed the Express lead to 6-2 at the time.

He also scored two runs and struck out once.

Garver played six innings behind the plate for the Express and was removed for Matt Whatley.

He’s been with the Express all week. He made starts at designated hitter on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by an off-day on Thursday. He caught on Friday, going roughly half the game behind the plate. He then got an off-day on Saturday.

Garver and the Express are in Albuquerque for a week-long series with the Isotopes. Garver played his college baseball for the University of New Mexico before the Minnesota Twins drafted him in 2013.

It’s not clear when the Rangers will activate Garver. With Jonah Heim and Sandy Leon on the active roster, the Rangers can afford to be patient. The Rangers are on the road through Wednesday at the Detroit Tigers and return for a homestand beginning on Friday against the Seattle Mariners.

The Express are off Monday before starting a home series with Sugar Land on Tuesday.

Garver was moved to the 10-day injured list on April 10 with a mild left knee sprain. Garver was batting .263 with two home runs and six RBI at the time of the injury.
