Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager admittedly isn’t a fan of rehab assignments. But he took at-bats with Double-A Frisco during his final tune-up in preparation for his return to the Rangers.

But that doesn’t mean his three days in Frisco didn’t have an impact on others.

RoughRiders infielder Thomas Saggese — the organization’s No. 15 prospect — said he soaked up everything he could just by watching how Seager approached the game during his three days with the team.

“Growing up, I would have been starstruck like a 12-year-old if you had told me (they would play together), but for me, at this point, it’s fun to watch him, how he goes about his work and see what he’s doing,” Saggese said. “If there’s something I can take and improve on, that’s the part of it that I really like to see, how he goes about his day.”

Saggese, in his third minor-league season, is batting .296 with three home runs and 24 RBI through 37 game with the RoughRiders.

He was the Rangers’ final pick in the truncated 2020 MLB Draft and came straight out of high school. Saggese started at Low Class-A Down East – one of two affiliates sold by the Rangers – in 2021, where he batted .256/.372/.463 with 10 homers and 11 steals in 73 games.

Last season, Saggese played 103 total minor league games, batting .312/.361/.506/.867 (125-for-401) with 61 runs, 23 doubles, four triples, 15 home runs and 70 RBI. He walked 30 times and struck out 97 times. He stole 12 bases and was caught stealing three times. He primarily played shortstop and third base, and was charged with eight errors in 352 total chances.

He was part of the RoughRiders’ run to the Texas League title last season.
