Texas Rangers Prospect One of Few With Huge OPS Number in Minors

All five of the Texas Rangers' minor league affiliates are in action this week, with four of them starting new series on Tuesday.
Triple-A Round Rock is at Oklahoma City, Double-A Frisco is hosting Midland, High Class-A Hickory is at Aberdeen and Class-A Down East is hosting Myrtle Beach. The ACL Rangers continue action in rookie league.

Triple-A Round Rock
Round Rock (15-13, 59-43, 3rd, 3.0 GB) snapped its 7-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over first-place Oklahoma City. CF J.P. Martinez (3-for-4, BB, HR, 2 RBI) finished with a 3-H game and belted a 410 foot home run in the first inning to leadoff the game. Martinez is now 4th in the PCL in OPS (1.014) and is 1 of 10 players in AAA with an OPS over 1.000. LF Dustin Harris (2-for-5, 2B, 3B) tallied a pair of XBH while RF Elier Hernandez (1-for-5, 2 RBI) notched a 2-R single to extend his hit streak to 8 G. RHP Seth Nordlin (W, 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R-ER, 4 SO) secured his first AAA win and went 5.0+ innings with 0 R-ER allowed for the 3rd time this season. RHP Ian Kennedy (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R-ER, 3 SO) spun a pair of scoreless innings to earn the save and has a 1.54 ERA (2 ER/11.2 IP) in 11 relief appearances since the beginning of July.
Double-A Frisco
Frisco (15-13, 46-50, 3rd, 3.0 GB) lost in the 11th inning to Midland, 6-5. 1B Josh Hatcher (1-for-4, BB, HR, RBI) homered in the 7th inning to get the ‘Riders on the board after trailing through the first 6 innings. Hatcher now has 28 RBIs in 24 games with Frisco this year. LF Kellen Strahm (1-for-4, BB, 2 RBI) drove in a pair of runs in the 8th inning on a single to cut the lead to 1. RHP Grant Wolfram (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R-ER, 2 SO) retired all 6 BF across 2.0 innings. LHP Antoine Kelly (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 SO) hasn’t allowed an earned run across his last 16 app to lower his ERA from 4.29 to 2.29: 16.1 IP, 12 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 22 SO.
High Class-A Hickory
Hickory's (20-10, 47-44, 1st, +2.5 GA) 3-R 4th inning powered Hickory to a 5-2 win against Aberdeen. CF Daniel Mateo (2-for-4, 3B, 2 RBI) drove in a pair of runs for the ‘Dads and gave them the lead with a 2-R triple in the 4th inning to go up, 3-2. C Cody Freeman (1-for-4, RBI), LF Geisel Cepeda (1-for-4, RBI), and 3B Griffin Cheney (0-for-3, RBI) accounted for Hickory’s other 3 runs. RHP Leury Tejada (W, 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R-ER, 2 BB, 0 SO) earned the win after setting down 8 of 11 BF, while RHP Adrian Rodriguez (S, 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R-ER, 2 SO) earned the save with a perfect 9th frame.
Class-A Down East
Down East (14-16, 51-40, 4th, 4.5 GB) had its game suspended in the 1st inning due to inclement weather. Woodies’ RHP DJ McCarty (1.0 IP, 1 H,4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) gave up a quartet of runs in the opening frame as DE trails, 4-0. in lieu of the washout, the Woodies will play a double header Wednesday with the first game being a full 9-innings, and game two just a 7-inning contest.
ACL Rangers
The ACL Rangers (17-24, 5th, 7.0 GB) The ACL Rangers mustered just 3 hits as they were blanked by the ACL Mariners, 3-0. SS Sebastian Walcott (1-for-3), LF Marcos Tores (1-for-2), and 1B Christian Gonzalez (1-for-3) tallied the squad’s only knocks. RHP Ismael Agreda (3.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R-ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) struck out a season-high 6 batters, while RHP Josh Gessner (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R-ER, 4 SO) punched out 4 of 6 BF in the start.
