The Boston Red Sox likely will be extremely busy this offseason.

Boston has surprised people this season and although the club may not make the postseason, likely is just a few solid moves away. The Red Sox have some young talent on its way to the big leagues but the club still will be very active in the free agent market. Boston has a few holes on the roster to fill. The starting rotation is the most glaring, but second base also is a position of need.

It wouldn't be too surprising to see the Red Sox add a middle infielder and three that could make sense are Adam Frazier, Kolten Wong, and Jonathan Schoop, according to MassLive.com's Sean McAdam.

Where, then, does that leave the Red Sox for next season? With (Nick Yorke) perhaps ready to contribute in the second half of next year, or by the spring of 2025, it wouldn’t make much sense for the Red Sox to invest long-term at the position," McAdam said. "Either way, the free agent market features a few serviceable veterans, including Adam Frazier, Kolten Wong, and Jonathan Schoop. At this point, however, all three are major question marks and qualify as depth options rather than everyday solutions for a contending team."

While McAdam noted Frazier, Wong, and Schoop likely would be depth options at this point in their careers, any of the trio could be a bridge option to up-and-coming prospect Nick Yorke. Frazier likely would be the top choice. The one-time All-Star has appeared in 121 games for the Baltimore Orioles this season and is slashing .245/.301/.410 to go along with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs. Wong is having the worst offensive season of his career but has appeared in just 71 games. The 32-year-old is a two-time Gold Glove award winner and could be an interesting bounce-back candidate. Schoop has appeared in just 55 games this season and has struggled. He could make sense but likely would be behind both Frazier and Wong.
