The Boston Red Sox lineup is about to look a little different.

Boston reportedly made a major move Monday afternoon as the club called up No. 3 prospect Ceddanne Rafaela for the first time after a red-hot stretch with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne.

Big news. Rafaela is getting called up today," Browne said. "In addition, David Hamilton is being recalled. Pablo Reyes to the IL. Wilyer Abreu to paternity list."

Rafaela has been knocking on the big league door for some time and now the 22-year-old will get his first taste of the big leagues as the club takes on the Houston Astros. The young utility man has been exceptional in the minor leagues so far this season. In 48 games with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, Rafaela has clubbed 14 home runs, driven in 42 runs, and stolen six bases to go along with an impressive .312/.370/.618 slash line.

The 22-year-old certainly can help out the Red Sox. Rafaela has seen time in center field, at shortstop, and third base so far in his young career so he could help provide more depth for a Boston club fighting for its postseason life. The Red Sox currently are four-and-a-half games out of an American League Wild Card spot and will need all of the help it can get right now.

Rafaela began his professional career as a 17-year-old in the Boston farm system in 2018 and has quickly shot up the ranks. Red Sox Nation should be keeping a close eye on him. Soon enough he'll be every day at Fenway Park and this is just the beginning.
