Red Sox Reportedly Receive Positive Injury Update About Star Slugger

In this story:
The Boston Red Sox may get one of their most impressive hitters back sooner rather than later.
Red Sox outfielder Adam Duvall suffered a distal radius fracture in his left wrist after a red-hot start to the 2023 season. Duvall was without a doubt Boston's best offensive player through the first few weeks of the season and slashed an eye-popping .455/.514/1.030 to go along with four home runs and 14 RBIs in just eight games.
Although a solid timetable wasn't released, MLB.com's Ian Browne reported that Duvall would miss roughly six to eight weeks while he recovers. Boston got some good news Monday as Duvall reportedly got out of his hard cast after undergoing an X-ray, according to the Boston Herald's Mac Cerullo.
"Good news, Adam Duvall is out of his cast," Cerullo said. "Was scheduled to get another X-ray today and obviously things looked good enough to be switched into a removable splint."
Duvall fractured his wrist diving for a fly ball on April 9, meaning a six to eight-week absence would have him return to the club's lineup towards the end of May or early June. The fact that the 34-year-old had his hard cast removed Monday means that his healing seems to be going as expected so far. There's still a ways to go before he's back for Boston at Fenway Park, but Monday was a good sign.
Speedy outfielder Jarren Duran has filled in extremely well for the Red Sox since has recalled by the club. If Duran can continue playing at the level he has, Duvall's eventual return could give the team extra flexibility. The slugger could pencil in at any outfield position or designated hitter. If young first baseman Triston Casas continues to struggle Boston could give him opportunities to fine-tune his swing with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox while moving Justin Turner to first base to keep everyone's bats in the lineup.
These are decisions that are weeks away from being decided, but it's nice to start thinking of them because it means that Duvall will be back shortly.
