Red Sox Seen As Top Landing Spot For Gold Glove Award Winner In Offseason Major Trade

It sounds like the Red Sox could end up having a major trade up their sleeves

What will the Boston Red Sox do this offseason?

Boston entered the offseason with many expecting it to be one of the most active teams. The Red Sox were expected to improve the starting rotation, add a second baseman, and spend big this offseason.

At this point, it's not so clear what the club will do. Free agency has been extremely slow this offseason and Boston hasn't made any significant additions aside from outfielder Tyler O'Neill from a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Plus, now there have been rumblings that the Red Sox aren't planning to spend big and someone like Jordan Montgomery may be too expensive for them. While this is the case, Boston surely will make some moves.

The Red Sox could use a new second baseman and has been linked to San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim in a possible trade on multiple occasions. While it's not clear if he will be traded, Boston is viewed as the top landing spot for him if he does, according to Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer.

"Best Landing Spot: Boston Red Sox," Rymer said. "After a solid showing in 2022, Ha-Seong Kim took his offense to even higher heights this year. His .749 OPS set a new personal best, as did his 17 home runs and 38 stolen bases.

"What Kim does best, however, is field the ball. He's fresh off winning his first Gold Glove after tallying seven Outs Above Average at second base, before which he had racked up eight OAA at shortstop in 2022. Any number of teams would be better with the 28-year-old Kim in the middle of their defense, but OAA reveals just how badly the Red Sox needed him this year: Second Base: Minus-13 OAA."

San Diego already has made one major trade this offseason by dealing superstar slugger Juan Soto away so it wouldn't be too surprising to see another move get done. Kim had the best season of his career so far in 2023 and slashed .260/.351/.398 with 17 home runs, 60 RBIs, and 38 stolen bases. Plus, he earned his first career Gold Glove Award.

If Boston wants to get a deal done, it has the prospect capital to do so.
