Red Sox DFA Reliever After Horrid Outing; Activate Veteran From Injured List

In this story:
The Boston Red Sox may have taken the series at Wrigleyville, but one reliever isn't thrilled with his results in Chicago.
The Red Sox announced Monday that right-handed reliever Jake Faria was designated for assignment, and taking his place on the 26-man roster will be Richard Bleier -- who was reinstated from the injured list.
The team announced that Faria was being moved to make room for Bleier, but his outing on Sunday afternoon may have played a large part in management's decision-making,
Faria took the mound for two innings on Sunday for the final game of a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs, in which he struggled to find his footing. The 29-year-old allowed five earned runs with four hits, four walks and three strikeouts in just two innings of work. He ultimately did his job in the 11-5 blowout win -- which was to eat the final two innings -- but did make multiple relievers warm up throughout his outing as he appeared unable to get anyone out.
It was likely Faria was going to get designated for assignment no matter what but he certainly made the decision easy for Boston.
In his place will be Bleier, the southpaw has a 5.85 ERA, a .300 batting average against, a 12-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 1.35 WHIP in 20 innings pitched across 19 games.
His Red Sox career has not gotten off to a great start, and he's done nothing to look like an upgrade over players like Faria, Justin Garza and Kaleb Ort, all of which have struggled at the bottom of the bullpen.
