It sure sounds like Marcelo Mayer is going to fit in Boston.

The Boston Red Sox's top prospect is just 20 years old and already is tearing up the minor leagues. It is expected that he will one day in the not-so-distant future take over the Red Sox's shortstop position and man the spot for many years to come. When Mayer arrives at Fenway Park he will likely play a role in the Red Sox and New York Yankees' bitter rivalry for the foreseeable future and it sounds like he's ready for it.

"Hell yeah," Mayer said when asked if he was ready for the Yankee Stadiums heckles by Josh and Dave Palet of JP25 Media. "I love the heckles. It's almost more fun playing away sometimes than playing at home. It adds a little more spice to the game."

Mayer was drafted with the fourth overall pick in the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft and likely will be taking the field in Boston in the near future. He may not be called up in 2023, but a Major League Baseball debut in 2024 wouldn't be surprising.

The shortstop shined in 2022 and slashed .280/.399/.489 to go along with 13 home runs, 30 doubles, 17 stolen bases, and 53 home runs. Mayers is Boston's top prospect and is the 10th highest-rated prospect in all of baseball heading into 2023, according to Baseball America.

If he's able to continue his current trajectory, he could be a game-changer for the Red Sox. Also to make matters better for Red Sox Nation, the fact that he hasn't even hit Double-A yet but already is saying all of the right things about the Red Sox-Yankees bodes very well.

Hopefully one day very soon Mayer can etch his name in the long Boston-New York rivalry and help give the Red Sox the upper-hand.
