The Boston Red Sox reportedly won't have one of their veteran hurlers back this season.

Boston reportedly shut down two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber on Saturday afternoon and he will not pitch for the club again this season, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne.

"Triston Casas still sore (shoulder)," Browne said. "He might get imaging. If he needs to be shut down, (Bobby Dalbec) will get called up. Corey Kluber won't pitch again this season. He feels he is healthy and will go home to continue rehab."

Kluber signed with the Red Sox as a free agent ahead of the 2023 campaign but struggled before going down with injury. The 37-year-old appeared in just 15 games for Boston -- including nine starts -- and compiled a 7.04 ERA in 55 innings pitched. The three-time All-Star started on Opening Day for Boston and was expected to play a major role for the club but inconsistent play and injuries derailed his season.

The veteran righty was one of the best pitchers in baseball at one point but now is in the backend of this career. Kluber significantly more likely than not has appeared in his final game with the Red Sox. The 37-year-old likely will become a free agent this offseason as Boston has an $11 million team option for Kluber that it likely will decline.

It wouldn't be too surprising to see Kluber land with another club this upcoming offseason but it most likely won't be Boston. If the veteran wants to continue his career in 2024, hopefully, he can land elsewhere and get back on track.
