Sorry to keep rehashing it, but the drama between Rafael Devers and Boston Red Sox fans really has pervaded the weekend series with the San Francisco Giants.

Devers made his not-so-triumphant return to Fenway Park on Friday night and was met with more boos than cheers, especially during his first plate appearance. A video tribute before the second inning earned him a little more of an even mix, but on the whole, it wasn't a warm welcome.

After Devers homered, but the Red Sox came out on top in a 6-4 contest, one of the star slugger's Giants teammates took his side, showing a bit of disdain for the Fenway Faithful.

What Logan Webb said about Sox fans' boos

Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb, who gave up five earned runs and exited the game without finishing the third inning, was asked for his reaction to the treatment of Devers from the Boston crowd. As a member of a team with no other World Series winners outside of Devers, Webb seemed somewhat incredulous.

"Yeah, he did a lot of great things for this organization, or that organization, so, kind of disappointing hearing the boos, but it is what it is," Webb said, via NBC Sports Bay Area.

On the whole, Webb's reaction has merit. Devers did a ton of good for the Red Sox, and for the most part, players who win World Series as a member of any organization deserve lifetime respect from that fan base.

The issue, though, is that Devers' fallout with the organization and those fans is still fresh. It's only been 14 months since the trade, which happened at least in part because the slugger refused to pick up a first-base glove in Boston. That he does so regularly now in San Francisco isn't the indictment some think it is, but it's still undeniably bad for the optics.

It seems likely that within a few years, Devers' returns to Fenway will warm up. The hostility is punishment for last year, but no matter how it ended, there's no scrubbing away the success of Devers' tenure -- especially that World Series ring.
