Elly De La Cruz was one of the most impressive rookie performers in the big leagues last season, and MLB Network believes he's going to take a major step forward in year two.

Previously named a top-10 National League rookie, De La Cruz was listed as one of 10 players poised make a "second-year leap."

De La Cruz made his debut for the Reds last June, following his pure dominance in the minors for their affiliate teams. He had multiple big moments throughout the year that felt unreal at times, which included hitting for the cycle on June 23 against the Atlanta Braves.

In his 98 games played, the talented prospect posted a .235 batting average in 388 at-bats and finished with 91 hits, 15 doubles, 7 triples, 13 home runs, and 44 RBI. He is also one of the fastest players in baseball. He was clocked on a home-to-home trip in 15.3 seconds, which is the fastest home-to-home time clocked for the Reds since 2017.

It is safe to say that the young athlete is a great example of what a “freak athlete” should be. Being one of the fastest-rising players in the major leagues, it is very likely that you will see De La Cruz do big things for the Reds in his sophomore year of action, as the fans hope for many more electric moments.

Check out the complete list of players that made the ranking below:

  • Elly De La Cruz (Reds)
  • Hunter Brown (Astros)
  • Jordan Walker (Cardinals)
  • Anthony Volpe (Yankees)
  • Francisco Alvarez (Mets)
  • Grayson Rodriguez (Orioles)
  • Joey Wiemer (Brewers)
  • Ezequiel Tovar (Rockies)
  • Patrick Bailey (Giants)
  • Henry Davis (Pirates)
