Jon Morosi: Cincinnati Reds Have Best Starting Rotation in National League Central
The Reds' starting rotation got a major boost this offseason. They added Frankie Montas and Nick Martinez in free agency.
Throw in homegrown talent like Andrew Abbott, Nick Lodolo, Hunter Greene and Graham Ashcraft and it's easy to see why MLB Network analyst Jon Morosi is high on this group.
“This is not a group of household names but I suggest you learn them," Morosi said. "Nick Martinez has had some good moments he was pitching for Team USA this time last year. Lodolo is a big-time lefty with great stuff from Williamson as well. We got Hunter Greene at the top of the rotation. They signed Montas because they believe that he is going to be able to bounce back.
“I look at that group of seven (Martinez, Williamson, Abbott, Greene, Montas, Lodolo, Ashcraft) and I’m not sure that I see in the National League Central, especially given the Brewers' losses of starting pitchers this off-season… I’m not sure I see a better rotation in that division right now than what the Reds have.”
Montas is the Reds Opening Day starter. It's also worth noting that Brandon Williamson is set to start the season on the injured list. Lodolo is expected to return around April 10.
Health is a question mark, but people believe in the Reds' talent. Watch the full video below:
