In this story:

The Kansas City Royals are currently in the midst of their longest winning streak of the season. After completing a sweep of the Detroit Tigers with an 11-7 win Sunday, Kansas City has now won eight straight games.

This marks back-to-back sweeps for the Royals. Before their three-game set against the Tigers, Kansas City took all four games against the Athletics. This is some of the best baseball we have seen from the boys in blue all season.

There have been a handful of takeaways from the Royals’ current winning streak, but one thing in particular has fueled the team over the past eight games.

Kansas City’s offense has been clicking as of late

While injuries have affected the Royals’ lineup throughout the year, they still haven’t been one of the most productive run-scoring offenses this season. Kansas City has scored the ninth-fewest runs in baseball.

Lately, that has been far from the case, as the Royals have been producing runs at a high rate during their winning streak. Kansas City has scored 50 runs over its past eight games, the third-most in MLB during that span.

This production has come from 79 hits, 12 home runs and a team slash line of .299/.380/.508, along with an .888 OPS. It also hasn’t been the result of just a couple of players getting hot. While some players are performing at a higher level than others, nearly the entire lineup has contributed during the streak.

As mentioned before, injuries have hurt the Royals’ roster throughout the season. While that isn’t an excuse for how the team has played this year, it has certainly been an underlying factor. The biggest takeaway from this winning streak has been the offense and how its recent production has created optimism for the future.

The talent is there when it comes to the Royals’ lineup, especially with the breakout of Jac Caglianone and the flashes we have seen from Carter Jensen. That young talent is paired with cornerstone Bobby Witt Jr. and a supporting cast that includes Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino.

Michael Massey has also put together a very solid season and is playing his way into a bigger role next year, while Nick Loftin and Tyler Tolbert have emerged as dark-horse candidates to contribute moving forward.

The point is that when healthy, this offense has the talent and ability to produce runs. It will be up to the pitching staff, more specifically the bullpen, to close out games. That makes improving the bullpen one of the Royals’ top priorities this offseason if they hope to return to contention next season.
