In 2019, the Braves had the best record in the NL East and the second-best record in the entire National League. For obvious reasons, fantasy baseball players are eyeing up a lot of Atlanta’s players. Even with the added attention due to the Braves’ 2019 success, there’s two players that are flying under the radar. Sports Illustrated’s Shawn Childs lists outfielder Austin Riley and starting pitcher Sean Newcomb as sleepers. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Childs expects a regression for starting pitcher Max Fried and thinks he is being overpriced by fantasy baseball players. Childs was joined by BravesCentral’s Bill Shanks in the attached video and discussed the Braves Sleepers and Regression candidates.

Corey Parson: Hey, what's up it's Corey Parson, the fantasy executive here with si.com. Major League Baseball could be on the way back. That means fantasy baseball should be coming back around. Also joining me to talk some Atlanta Braves baseball is Braves Insider Bill Shanks and S.I. fantasy and gaming analyst Shawn Childs. Bill, I'll start with you. Can you give me a couple of players that you think could be sleepers this year?

Bill Shanks: Well, I think one player that a lot of people are really wanting to see is Austin Riley, who came up last year and had to play the outfield and really did well out there. I never thought he would have been able to play in left field as he did. He was pretty, pretty good. And but he's a natural third baseman, and I think he's going to go and compete with Johan Camargo when they get back. Both of them were doing very well in March before everything stopped. I think the thought was that Riley would probably go back and spend some time at AAA. But I don't think now I think look there going to have their best bats out there. And they proved last year that he's going to have a great power bat. He's got to cut out of his strikeouts, there's no doubt about it. But I think Austin Riley is a big player to watch for this team, and he can make a big difference if they've got another power bat. And that lineup to replace Josh Donaldson, that could be a very big thing for this team.

Corey Parson: Shawn, let me come to you. What about a regression candidate?

Shawn Childs: Well, everybody, especially in the fantasy world has given Max Freed a lot of it respect, you know, 17 wins. 173 strikeouts. His command was a lot better than expected last year. He's kind of a tricky player because in a first-round draft pick, but he struggled in his minor league career in 19-33, 4.18 ERA and then even started off well last year in the majors. And then he had a really, really terrible stretch for two months. And you thought maybe he would get bounced out, but he, you know, bounce back for a good finish to the year. So, you know, he's attractive what he did. But the key here is fantasy baseball, as you know, is control in the whip category. And he did give it more hits in innings pitched so that, you know, I like his upside. But where he gets drafted, I probably would fade him a little bit because of, you know, mainly because of the whip category. And he does give up a few too many base runners and home runs are a problem at times last year.

Corey Parson: All right. We see that the dog wants to season the comeback. For all the latest from the majors keep it locked right here SI.com.
