Live Updates: New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays

TAMPA — New York is back at George M. Steinbrenner Field, set to take on the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.

With just over one week to go until the regular season, a full slate of starters get more reps. Beyond Clint Frazier and Luke Voit, who are sitting out on Wednesday, this is who you'll see on Opening Day next week in the Bronx.

Jay Bruce continues to fight for a roster spot with his opt-out date looming on Thursday while Deivi García gets another opportunity to show his worth on the mound.

Toronto is limping to the finish line here this spring as key pieces like George Springer, Kirby Yates and Robbie Ray have each gone down with injuries in the last few days. Yates needs Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of the 2021 season.

Either way, this is close to the lineup the Yankees will see on April 1 at Yankee Stadium.

LIVE UPDATES

First inning

Deivi García was almost through a clean first frame before Bo Bichette skied a solo home run over the short porch in right field. Blue Jays take a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom half, both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton ripped singles, but a fly ball from Gleyber Torres to the warning track with two outs ended the inning.

Second inning

García allows a second run to come across in the second. This time it's an RBI single through the left side. New York is in a 2-0 hole early on.

Third inning

Teoscar Hernández absolutely crushed a two-run homer off Deivi García, nearly clearing the batter's eye in center field. That's four runs on seven hits for Deivi through three frames...

Fifth inning

Bo Bichette goes deep once again. He's 3-3 today with two home runs, this time going the other way off Luis Cessa. It's 5-0, Jays.

Seventh inning

We're through seven and no additional runs have come around to score. Lucas Luetge tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief but the Yankees are still scoreless on the day as the starters begin to come out of this game.

Ninth inning

FINAL: Yankees 0, Blue Jays 5

After a scoreless inning from Albert Abreu in the top of the inning, the Yankees bats go down quietly to end this game in the bottom half. It's a shutout and a loss for García.

New York will travel to Clearwater to take on the Phillies on Thursday night. That game is one week away from Opening Day.
