Madelyn Burke: Fight fans who tuned in this past weekend to watch UFC Fight Night saw Gilbert Burns defeat Tyron Woodley in dominant fashion. With Woodly losing his second consecutive bout and burns on his way to potentially capturing gold. What does the future hold for these two fighters? Well, SI's Justin Barrasso shares his thoughts on last weekend's events and how it may impact the fighters. First of all, Justin, Woodley is a former welterweight champ. Were you shocked at all to see him get beat the way he did?

Justin Barrasso: The manner in which he did was surprising. I mean, that fight was over in the first minute. Burns just took it to him. Woodley never really recovered from that opening minute. I mean, obviously, he endured. He withstood the punishment, but he was never really in that fight. Burns dictated the pace. He continually, continually backed Woodley up. It was just a very one-sided fight. And it wasn't the fight that I thought we'd see. But to Burns credit, I mean, for the first time in his career, he really looked like the complete package, the guy who should be contending for the welterweight title.

Madelyn Burke: Now, when we see fighters in the octagon lose repeatedly? Many expect to see the fighter walk away. What is next for Woodley?

Justin Barrasso: So I think it's a great story for Burns because he's a world-class athlete and a great fighter, and he paid his dues to get to that title match, which he now deserves. Woodley's another interesting situation. He's in a really interesting situation, he's thirty-eight, and I just with his relationship with Dana White, I don't see him ever being put in title contention so I go back in title contention. I feel like that fight on Saturday was his chance because the great thing about fighting is when you're winning, you're winning. So the fact that Woodley, if he controlled his own destiny, if he won, especially if he won in dominant fashion. The fact that he lost the way he did, he is out of the top five, he is out of title contention. I'll be surprised if he's ever in title contention again in the UFC. You know, honestly, his best bet might be just fighting on his contract and going to Bellator or somewhere else. One, I don't think that he has a future, at least in the title picture in UFC following that loss.

Madelyn Burke: Now, you mentioned how positive this was, though, for Burns. How bright is his future?

Justin Barrasso: Yeah. If he can put together another performance like that, you know, Kamaru is one of his teammates, so they know each other well. I think, too, in order, you know, greatness is sustained, right? It's not it's not flashes but he looked incredible. I think that's obviously a main event match for the title. And the interesting thing with Burns, too, is, I mean, there's a lot at stake for the UFC. He's from Brazil and Brazil is such a huge market for the UFC. There's so much money to be made with a champion from Brazil. So there's a lot at stake. If he can put it together and win that championship.

Madelyn Burke: SI's Justin Barrasso, thanks so much for taking the time.

Justin Barrasso: Thank you.
